Happy Valentine's Day 2016

This week had quite a few important days on the calendar with special Holidays/Observances.

The week started off with the Lunar/Chinese New Year!  I'm trying to start working in the Chinese holidays into my life, and share them with the family.  That way when Grace is in our family, it's part of the holidays/celebrations we join in on, and a way to share our cultural backgrounds.  2016 is the year of the Monkey!  I had bought some red envelopes and instead of money, and just giving them to the kiddos, I filled them with a monkey bracelet and gave one to mom, dad, KK, Mimi, Ebob, and the nieces :)  I kept one for myself and have one in an envelope for Grace as well, one day in the future.   I got four in red (b/c that's all I could find in red) for the little girls (nieces and Grace), two gray ones for the guys, and four white ones for us "older" ladies.  Wasn't until I was passing them out that I remembered that white in Chinese culture is usually used for funerals.  Whoops!!  But they will go with most things ;)  I need to learn to make some (authentic) Chinese foods/meals.  I picked up some frozen Chinese meals this time though, and they were quite yummy :)

While I didn't do anything for Fat Tuesday, as always it is followed by Ash Wednesday.  Unfortunately, I had the start of this lovely cold that I've been dealing with still.  I did however go ahead and start the Lent 2016 study from She Reads Truth.  I have decided that taking on the "Read the Bible in a Year" at this point, is too overwhelming for me.  Especially if I miss a day or two, I just feel so behind and like I can't catch up to the point I just stop.  I like following along with their studies, even if I've only done a few so far, and reading related verses from the Bible and then the ladies' takes on how it applies to our lives.  I may or may not also enjoy clicking the "Read" button at the end of the selection of verses to get the satisfaction of having actually read some of the Bible.  I need more of it in my life!

Friday I was offered a new position at work that I had applied for back in December.  It's in the same group I'm with right now, but that is a "senior" position where the one I have/had is/was "associate" level.  It's some of what I had done two jobs prior, but to the next level, if that makes any sense.  It will be nice to not have to wake up at 4 am anymore, but will stink having to go back to working Holidays (especially Christmas this year :(); it will be nice having a nice little bump in pay, but still have to do the work load/more pressure to earn that money.  Oh, yeah, I accepted it ;)

Which brings us to today, Sunday, Valentine's Day.  I spent time this morning with KK as we listened to our second lesson from Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University.  I planned out my meals for this week to help me stay on plan, and we ran to Target to grab my groceries.  KK is having a sleepover for the little ladies this evening (especially since they don't have school tomorrow), and so I'll get to love on them for a little while.

I have a lot more to say/write/tell you all, but for now we're caught up.  I'm really working on making things more "do-able" and not overwhelming.  I wanted to share here in my space, and figured I had an actual topic that would keep me somewhat focused on this week ;)  I better get to work on decluttering/spring cleaning my bedroom closet now.  Have a wonderful Valentine's Day!!!!

Write it Down

This year I bought myself an Erin Condren Life Planner.  I don't really keep planners, but instead have post it notes with written reminders everywhere and a wall calendar with birthdates jotted down. I figured this year it might be more in line with a "clutter-less" lifestyle to keep them all in one place. Perhaps even be more organized at home with what I want to accomplish, instead of starting one thing, then going off to start another thing that popped into my mind that needs to be done, and so on and so forth, so as to never really accomplish/finish any of them.

I went ahead and got some really cool FriXionball Clicker pens that are erasable and are quite awesome, based off a YouTuber I had happened to watch on how she kept her Planner pretty basic.  I found some clipart from Etsy that I bought and downloaded to print onto some Avery removable labels that I had purchased through Amazon.  Add in some really cute clips to keep pages/weeks marked and easily accessible and I'm set.

For today I tried to keep what I wanted to get done simple.  There's a layout in the beginning of the Planner with six boxes on each page (for a total of twelve) and on one page it says "If I can believe it I can achieve it" and on the next page, "If I can dream it I can become it."  On the back of the second page is a blank sheet with lines.  I started there and wrote my "Goal" for the year, which is "Contentment, Change, Letting Go and Letting God".  Underneath I included two bible verses which I think really bring those Goals together in a nice reminder from Him.

Then I went back to the boxes and started filling them out.  What do I want to get out of this year, and how will I achieve them? At first it seemed like there were too many boxes, and at the same time not enough.  There are a lot of things I feel I need/could work on, but at the same time it kind of made me think of the self-assessments you have to do for reviews at work.  And oh how I loathe doing those.  Once I remembered that these are just for me to work on, and no one else needs to/will see these and that the only one that I really need to be judged by for how much I accomplish along the way is Him, it became easy to fill those little boxes up.

I know that I feel better when I've got it out and written down/typed out, instead of trying to keep it stored in memory and cluttering up my brain.  It's a nice exercise that I should definitely keep up on, and who knows maybe free up some space in the old noggin for remembering things like numbers for work.  Or, you know, more important things like lines from TV shows ;)

(See my cute little penguin friend up top?!  She's a clip :))

Not Quite Off To a Great Start

Today was the baby niece's 4th Birthday party.  Instead of being with the other Aunts, Uncles, cousins and Grandparents, I'm at home.  I have a dumb old cold again--where I'm pretty sure my bark sounds worse than my bite.  In other words, I sound much worse than I actually feel.  Well, at least in that aspect.  I also am having a dang skin flare up.  On my thigh.  Where if I walk it rubs against my other thigh, causing it to itch like mad and put my nerve endings on high alert.  Instead of seeing my baby dolls, I'm here at home.  I'm thankful that KK is bringing them over here later for a sleepover with her :)  Also happy that I was able to see baby girl after work on her actual Birthday, and that she can open her present over here with me later tonight!

I am also lucky enough to be able to watch YouTube and check out videos on the new SmartPoints program from Weight Watchers.  Which is something I'll be starting (again--well, WW at least...SmartPoints just started at the beginning of December) on Monday, January 4th.  After some other things get figured out (some for the billionth time) I'll set up a new timeline for getting out of debt.  Which will hopefully give me a better timeline to getting to the actual starting line of adoption!

I seriously am wanting this to be for my 40th Birthday (good gravy--40!!!  Which is really just 3 years and 2 months away *insert eyes popping out here*)  Well besides wanting it to have happened when I first got the calling.  I'm hoping for sooner, but until I find out some things (which I'll share later) I'm guessing the 40th b-day is probably about right.  Anyway, that gives me 3 years to get physically fit and drop those pounds!  If I'm going to be an "older" mom, I better position myself to be in shape for it!

I'm planning to do some grocery hauls, what I eat in a day, how I'm doing on Weight Watchers kind of posts here in the near future.  Even if I'm floundering about on what exactly I'm doing ;)

Hope this 2nd day of the New Year finds you all doing well!  I'm also lucky enough to have this day off on vacation, and not having to deal with these issues at work!

Happy 2016!

Wishing and Hoping for the best that this fresh new year has to offer all of us!

I'm going to keep it short and sweet.  I'm going to make this blog a bigger priority.  Even if it means being less rambly and more to the point.  I still feel like I don't really have anything exciting or spectacular to share with you all, but sometimes it's fun to just have a place to share---well, anything.
It was quite embarrassing to see when the last post was on this blog--February of last year.  I plan on changing that  We're starting fresh, because I say so ;)

For this post I just want to wish you all a happy and healthy New Year, and hope that your Christmas was as lovely as mine was :)

Cheers!
 (Sparkling Pomegranate Juice--pretty good!)
